What
about the hair:
As
an Army brat I naturally wore short
hair from day one, but when I started
school I was immediately ostracized
and suddenly became “Dumbo”
and “monkey ears.” Why?
I was born with flop ears. I did the
only thing I could, grew my hair long
to cover my ears. Within my golden locks,
I took shelter until I turned twenty
and had my ears surgically corrected.
The
first thing I did with my newfound freedom
was cut my hair short and over the ears.
Just like Sampson my luck immediately
went south, and then my hair began to
fall out. It seemed I had spit in the
face of my best friend of fourteen years
and it retaliated. As my hair hit the
pillow, I pleaded, “I’m
sorry,” and then promised my hair,
“I wont mess with you if you don’t
mess with me.” It’s been
twenty years and my hairline hasn’t
changed, so if it’s not broke
don’t fix it. Every three years
or so I cut my hair short, and then
over the next few years I let it grow
back out.
